Product Description:

From a young age, Wayuu women are immersed in the art of crocheting, observing and learning from their mothers and grandmothers. This heritage skill is honed during their formative years through dedicated training in various domestic arts. Their adeptness is evident as they seamlessly crochet even while on the move. According to Wayuu mythology, a spider-like deity originally bestowed the knowledge of knitting upon their people.

The vibrant, colorful Wayuu bags crafted by these skilled artisans not only serve a practical purpose but also carry deep cultural significance, encapsulating aspects of Wayuu life. The designs woven into each bag symbolize the natural world and the Wayuu's ancestral symbols, with colors conveying rich meanings—red for blood, blue for wisdom, yellow for happiness, beige for the land, and greens, pinks, and oranges representing flora.

These artisan, handmade Wayuu bags, unique in their craftsmanship, measure approximately 9 to 13 inches in diameter and depth, with straps spanning 32 to 40 inches. Perfectly contoured to rest on your hip, they are ideal for daily essentials and durable enough to endure years of use. The straps may stretch slightly with wear, adding to their unique character.

Sales of these vibrant, colorful bags are crucial for the economic survival and cultural preservation of the Wayuu people. Wuitusu is proud to support these endeavors, adhering to fair trade practices at every level as a committed member of Fair Trade LA. Furthermore, your purchase contributes directly to the Wayuu community, with each $50 helping to feed five Wayuu children through the Wayuu Taya Foundation, an organization dedicated to protecting the rich heritage of the Wayuu culture.

So beautiful!!!

This bag is simply gorgeous!!! So well made. The color is so cool, great for the summer. One thing though, the strap needs to be longer. The strap is very short. I'd definitely, definitely, definitely pay more for a longer strap. Stunning work.
