Product Description:

Explore the vibrant and unique collection of Wuitusu's handmade, artisan Wayuu bags. These colorful, one-of-a-kind creations are meticulously crafted by the Wayuu women of Colombia and Venezuela, who inherit the intricate skills of crocheting from a young age. Taught by their mothers and grandmothers, this tradition not only preserves vital cultural knowledge but also passes down the sacred myths and symbols integral to their heritage. According to Wayuu legend, a spider deity was the first to introduce the art of crocheting, linking these bags directly to the divine teachings of their ancestors.

The bags' vivid hues each carry deep meanings: red for blood, blue for wisdom, yellow for happiness, beige represents the earth, and greens and oranges symbolize nature's abundance. Each bag measures roughly 9 to 13 inches in both diameter and depth, with straps extending from 32 to 40 inches, making them ideal for carrying daily essentials while resting comfortably over the hip. Constructed from durable synthetic fibers, these bags ensure both longevity and style.

Choosing a Wuitusu bag means more than just owning a unique, artisan piece; it signifies a commitment to supporting fair trade practices. Wuitusu proudly participates as a member of the Fair Trade LA organization, ensuring ethical practices at every level of her business. Furthermore, each purchase aids the Wayuu Taya Foundation, which works to preserve Wayuu culture and provide essential resources to the community. Every $50 purchase helps to feed five Wayuu children, making these bags a perfect, thoughtful gift for her that truly makes a difference.

So beautiful!!!

This bag is simply gorgeous!!! So well made. The color is so cool, great for the summer. One thing though, the strap needs to be longer. The strap is very short. I'd definitely, definitely, definitely pay more for a longer strap. Stunning work.
