Product Description:

From their childhood, Wayuu women are deeply engaged in the traditional art of crochet, learning from the skilled hands of their mothers and grandmothers. This heritage is further enriched during their secluded youth, where they master various crafts, such as crocheting and weaving, which are vital to their cultural identity. These artisans seamlessly integrate their craft into daily life.

In Wayuu mythology, a spider-like deity is believed to have bestowed the gift of crochet to the Wayuu women. Each vibrant, handmade Wuitusu bag narrates a tale through its unique patterns, which depict nature and Wayuu clan symbols. Every hue is symbolic—red signifies blood, blue represents wisdom, yellow denotes happiness, beige echoes the earth, while greens, pinks, and oranges illustrate the vivid local flora.

These artisan Wuitusu bags, perfect for daily use, are approximately 9 to 13 inches in size, both in diameter and depth, and feature straps that are 32 to 40 inches long. Made from sturdy synthetic fibers, they drape comfortably over the hip, blending practicality with artisan style—making them the perfect gift for her.

Each sale of these unique, colorful bags not only supports the economic well-being of the Wayuu people but also helps preserve their intricate culture. Wuitusu upholds fair trade practices at every step and proudly associates with the Fair Trade LA organization. Additionally, a portion of proceeds is donated to The Wayuu Taya Foundation, contributing to the safeguarding of the Wayuu culture. Every $50 purchase aids in feeding five Wayuu children.

So beautiful!!!

This bag is simply gorgeous!!! So well made. The color is so cool, great for the summer. One thing though, the strap needs to be longer. The strap is very short. I'd definitely, definitely, definitely pay more for a longer strap. Stunning work.
