This bag was handmade by a Warao artisan from Venezuela. Most Waraos live near the Orinoco Delta and they live their lives in close proximity to this mighty river.
The making of this bag is a long and difficult process. Leaves from the "Moriche" palm tree are dried, crushed, and boiled. Then the fibers are twisted into fine treads and weaved. The colors are created with natural pigments.
The bag measures 38 cm (15 in) high, 33 cm (13 in) long, and the strap adds 52 cm (20 in) more.
Each $50 purchase will help feed 5 Wayuu children through The Wayuu Taya Foundation.
