These new Wayuu bags are a collaboration between the artisans (usually males) that use the Mawisa palm tree to weave hats, and the artisans (usually females) that crochet the beautiful Wayuu bags. The result is a gorgeous bag that is resilient and long-lasting. The drawings in the palm tree bottom are called Kanasu and they represent the environment around the artisans.
The bags are lined, and have one pocket in the inside. They measure about 7 inches wide at the bottom and 10 inches wide at the top. They are 10 inches tall, and the strap adds 22 inches more to the bag.
The selling of these bags represent the most important financial support of the Wayuu communities. We work directly with our Wayuu partners, emphasizing just prices, and doing our part for these and other susceptible communities. Each $50 will help feed 5 Wayuu children through The Wayuu Taya Foundation.
